Speaker Salman Khan is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Khan Academy, a nonprofit on a mission to provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere. With more than 160 million registered users across 190 countries, Khan Academy has become one of the most influential learning platforms ever built, reshaping how teachers teach, how students study, and how families think about technology in the classroom. Sal Khan is now widely regarded as one of the most important voices on the future of learning in the age of artificial intelligence.
His path is a study in turning an experiment into a movement. While working as a hedge fund analyst, Sal began tutoring his cousins over the internet. The lessons grew into YouTube videos, the videos grew into a library, and the library became Khan Academy, recognized by Time on its list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, profiled by 60 Minutes, and featured on the cover of Forbes. Sal holds three degrees from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
In partnership with OpenAI, Sal launched Khanmigo, an AI tutor and teaching assistant built on GPT-4 that is designed to ask better questions rather than hand out answers. Khanmigo is now used in school districts across the United States and abroad, and The Washington Post has highlighted it as a leading example of public-benefit AI. His latest book, Brave New Words: How AI Will Revolutionize Education (and Why That’s a Good Thing), was named one of the most important business books of 2024 and lays out how families, teachers, and policymakers should approach AI in the classroom. Sal is also the author of The One World Schoolhouse, the foundational text behind Khan Lab School, the project-based, mixed-age school he founded in Mountain View, California.
As a speaker, Salman Khan combines the rigor of an engineer with the warmth of a teacher. He challenges audiences to rethink what classrooms, exams, and credentials should look like, and shows how education leaders can use AI to lift every learner rather than leave them behind.
Public worry about AI in classrooms has masked a once-in-a-generation opportunity. Drawing on the playbook he developed for Khanmigo and the global Khan Academy network, Sal Khan shows how AI can finally deliver the long-promised 'two-sigma' tutoring effect at scale: a personal tutor for every student, an intelligent assistant for every teacher, and a way to close achievement gaps that human-only systems have failed to fix.
Senior audiences gain a clear-eyed view of what AI can and cannot do in education today, how to evaluate vendor claims, and how to deploy AI in learning and development programs inside their own organizations without sacrificing rigor.
Based on his bestseller Brave New Words, this keynote walks audiences through the full arc of AI in education, from elementary classrooms to corporate upskilling. Sal Khan addresses the questions on every leader's mind: Will AI make students lazy? How do we keep humans in the loop? What will teachers and managers actually do differently?
Drawing on his work with OpenAI, Khan Academy's school district partnerships, and Khan Lab School, Sal lays out a practical framework for responsible adoption, mastery-based learning, and building an AI-fluent workforce.
What would school look like if we designed it from scratch today? Sal Khan tells the unlikely founding story of Khan Academy, from tutoring a cousin in math to building the world's largest free education platform, and shares the vision behind his own school, Khan Lab School. He challenges the factory model of education, explains why mastery-based learning works, and shows how the same principles apply to corporate training, leadership development, and lifelong learning.
