Speaker Martín Redrado is a leading economist and global policy expert with deep expertise in emerging markets. Moreover, he stands out for his rare ability to combine rigorous economic thinking with hands-on leadership at the highest international and national levels.
Widely recognized across Latin America, speaker Martín Redrado played a key role in safeguarding Argentina’s economy during the global financial crisis of 2008–2009. At the same time, his firm defense of institutional integrity drew global attention when he refused to divert central bank reserves, placing economic stability above political pressure.
From 2016 to 2018, Redrado served as Senior Economic Advisor for emerging markets at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. Since 2019, he has also led the Master in Central Banking at Asia Business School in Kuala Lumpur, shaping the next generation of financial leaders.
Earlier, Redrado earned a Master’s degree from Harvard University, specializing in finance and international economics. He began his career working alongside Jeffrey Sachs on Bolivia’s stabilization program, before building a successful trajectory in the United States. There, he held senior roles at Salomon Brothers and Security Pacific Bank, advising on major privatizations, capital market transactions, Eurobond issuances, and corporate restructurings across Europe and Latin America.
In parallel, Redrado consistently answered the call to public service in Argentina. He served as President of the National Securities Commission, where he modernized capital market regulation, and later as Secretary of Commerce and International Economic Relations, driving a new global trade strategy for Argentine exports. Most notably, he led the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic from 2004 to 2010 and chaired the Committee for the Americas at the Bank for International Settlements.
In addition, Redrado is a prolific author of influential books on globalization, economic policy, and post-crisis recovery.
An in-depth analysis of how this political and economic phenomenon emerged, the factors behind its rapid rise, and whether similar movements could take shape in other countries. The talk also explores the political, economic, and social conditions required for such a shift to occur.
Drawing on his deep expertise in emerging economies, Martín Redrado examines the global forces reshaping growth and development. He explores the evolving role of emerging markets, the trends driving expansion, and the local and international factors that strengthen resilience in the face of economic and financial shocks.
With a clear and independent perspective shaped by decades of public policy leadership, Redrado analyzes the forces defining Latin America’s economic outlook. He highlights how global trends affect the region differently, while outlining the structural characteristics that will influence growth in the short and medium term.
