Facundo Manes is one of the world’s foremost neuroscientists and among the most compelling voices in the public communication of brain science. A neurologist, researcher, bestselling author, and Argentine National Deputy, he has spent three decades at the intersection of cutting-edge cognitive neuroscience, clinical practice, science communication, and public policy — building institutions, publishing hundreds of scientific papers, and reaching millions of people with the conviction that understanding the brain is one of the most important things any society can do.
Science speaker Facundo Manes trained as a physician at the University of Buenos Aires before completing advanced fellowships in functional neuroimaging at Massachusetts General Hospital, in neuropsychiatry at the University of Iowa, and earning a Master’s in Philosophy and a PhD in Science from the University of Cambridge. He returned to Argentina in 2001 with a deliberate mission: to build world-class cognitive neuroscience infrastructure in Latin America. The result was INECO — the Institute of Cognitive Neurology — and the Neuroscience Institute at the Favaloro Foundation, both of which became internationally recognized centers of research excellence. He has published over 250 original scientific papers in journals including Brain, The Lancet Neurology, JAMA Neurology, and Nature Neuroscience, and has been designated a principal investigator by CONICET, Argentina’s national research council.
His scientific contributions span some of the most consequential questions in cognitive neuroscience. He identified prefrontal regions involved in human decision-making, characterized the neural mechanisms of aggression, described the role of the insula in cognitive and emotional processes, and co-described Transient Epileptic Amnesia as a distinct syndrome. He has served as principal investigator in multiple clinical trials for potential Alzheimer’s treatments, and led the development of neuropsychological batteries for the early detection of frontotemporal dementia. He was a member of the WHO’s ICD-11 Expert Working Group on the Classification of Neurocognitive Disorders, former President of the International Frontotemporal Dementia Society, and former President of the World Federation of Neurology Research Group on Aphasia, Dementia and Cognitive Disorders.
Manes has never been content to keep his science in the laboratory. He hosted the television programs Los Enigmas del Cerebro and Cerebro Argentino in Argentina, and the documentary Supercerebro con Facundo Manes on Discovery Science Channel. His bestselling book Usar el Cerebro (Using Your Brain), co-authored with Mateo Niro, became one of the biggest-selling popular science titles in Latin American and Spanish publishing history. He has since published ten additional books — including El Cerebro del Futuro and Ser Humanos — that have reached millions of readers across the Spanish-speaking world. He has been awarded the Ordine della Stella d’Italia, the Arturo Jauretche Prize, and recognition as a distinguished figure in science and medicine by the Buenos Aires City Legislature. In December 2021, he was elected to the Argentine National Congress, where he serves as President of the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee.
As a speaker, Facundo Manes brings to every stage a combination that is genuinely rare: the scientific authority of a researcher with 250+ publications and the gifts of a master communicator who has spent decades making the brain comprehensible to everyone. His keynotes give senior audiences a rigorous, engaging, and practically grounded view of how the brain makes decisions, builds creativity, manages emotion, and adapts to change — insights that are directly relevant to leadership, organizational culture, and the human challenges of an AI-driven world. For organizations that want their audiences to leave not just inspired but genuinely changed in how they think, Manes is one of the most powerful speakers available through Aurum Speakers Bureau.
Every leader's most consequential tool is their brain — yet most leadership development ignores what science actually knows about how humans make decisions, manage risk, and respond under pressure. In this keynote, Manes draws on his own pioneering research into the prefrontal cortex and decision-making to show how the brain weighs options, why emotions are indispensable to good judgment (not its enemy), how cognitive biases distort strategic choices, and what leaders can do — based on evidence, not intuition — to make better decisions consistently. A session that reframes leadership from the inside out.
Creativity is not a personality trait — it is a set of brain processes that can be understood, cultivated, and deliberately activated. In this keynote, Manes explores what neuroscience has learned about the networks that underlie creative thought, the conditions under which breakthrough ideas emerge, why curiosity is the most undervalued cognitive asset in any organization, and how leaders can design environments that bring out the best of their teams' collective brainpower. Evidence-based, practically framed, and immediately relevant for any organization trying to build a culture of genuine innovation.
Artificial intelligence is transforming every dimension of professional and personal life — but it cannot replicate what is most distinctly human. Drawing on both his neuroscience research and his most recent books, Manes examines the capacities that make us irreducibly human — empathy, moral reasoning, emotional intelligence, social connection, creativity, and consciousness — and explores how individuals and organizations can cultivate these capacities precisely as AI takes over more cognitive tasks. A talk that is rigorous, optimistic, and urgently relevant for audiences navigating the human dimensions of technological change.
The human brain is not fixed — it is one of the most adaptable systems in nature, capable of reorganizing itself in response to experience, challenge, and learning across an entire lifetime. In this keynote, Manes explores the science of neuroplasticity and what it means in practice for individuals and organizations facing disruption, uncertainty, and rapid change. He covers what neuroscience knows about stress, resilience, and recovery; how learning and habit formation actually work at the neural level; and what the latest brain science suggests about how to build organizations that can genuinely adapt — not just survive — in a world that is changing faster than ever.
