Leadership speaker Dame Inga Beale made history as the first female chief executive of Lloyd’s of London, taking the helm of one of the world’s oldest and most tradition-bound institutions and leading it through a transformation few believed possible. Over a career spanning four decades in global financial services, she has become known as a bold, modernizing leader and one of the business world’s most visible champions of diversity and inclusion, equally at home discussing high-stakes transformation and the culture change that makes it stick.
Beale’s rise was anything but conventional. She began in the insurance industry as an underwriter and went on to hold senior leadership roles around the world, including Group CEO of the Swiss reinsurer Converium, a seat on the Global Management Board of Zurich Insurance Group, and Group CEO of the Lloyd’s managing agent Canopius, before being named CEO of Lloyd’s of London in 2013. There, she modernized a market founded in 1688, digitizing a famously paper-based institution, expanding into high-growth markets such as China, India, and Dubai, and opening the Lloyd’s Innovation Lab.
Just as significant was the culture she set out to change. Beale made diversity and inclusion central to her leadership, founding the industry-wide Dive In Festival, now the insurance sector’s global D&I event, and championing women and LGBT+ employees across the market. In 2015 she became the first woman, and the first openly bisexual person, to top the OUTstanding and FT Leading LGBT executive power list, and in 2017 she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the UK economy.
As a speaker, Dame Inga Beale is candid, warm, and deeply credible, using her own tenure at Lloyd’s as a real-world case study in large-scale change. She speaks on leading transformation and modernization, building diverse and inclusive cultures, the business case for belonging, resilience, and what it takes to break barriers as a leader. Audiences leave with a frank, first-person account of how change really happens inside a complex organization, and the conviction that inclusion and performance go hand in hand.
When Dame Inga Beale became CEO of Lloyd's of London, she inherited a market founded in 1688 and steeped in tradition, and set out to drag it into the digital age. In this keynote she offers a candid, first-person account of large-scale transformation: how to build the case for change, overcome entrenched resistance, digitize a famously paper-based institution, and expand into new global markets, all while keeping people on side. A rare, real-world masterclass in leading change at the very top.
Dame Inga Beale is one of the business world's most credible voices on diversity and inclusion, not as a slogan, but as a driver of performance. Drawing on her work transforming the culture of Lloyd's and founding the global Dive In Festival, she makes the hard-headed case for why diverse, inclusive organizations perform better, and shares practical lessons on how leaders can build cultures where everyone can thrive. An inspiring, evidence-based keynote from a leader who made inclusion central to her strategy.
As the first woman to lead Lloyd's of London in more than three centuries, and the first openly bisexual person to top the OUTstanding LGBT executive power list, Dame Inga Beale knows what it means to break barriers. In this personal and inspiring keynote she shares the resilience, courage, and self-belief it took to rise to the top of a male-dominated industry and to lead authentically as herself. A powerful message about leadership, identity, and paving the way for others.
Transformation only sticks when people feel they belong. Dame Inga Beale explores how leaders can move beyond diversity numbers to build genuine cultures of inclusion and belonging, where people bring their whole selves to work and perform at their best. Sharing what worked, and what didn't, during her own culture change at Lloyd's, she gives leaders practical, honest guidance on creating workplaces that are both more human and more successful. A thoughtful keynote for any organization serious about culture.
