Yoky Matsuoka is a roboticist, neuroscientist, and technology executive whose career has bridged academia, Silicon Valley’s most influential companies, and the frontier of AI for human well-being. A MacArthur “Genius” Fellow who has helped build products used by millions, she brings a rare combination of deep scientific expertise and proven leadership at the highest levels of the technology industry.
AI speaker Yoky Matsuoka is the CEO of Panasonic Well, the venture and business incubator within the Panasonic Group dedicated to building AI-powered products and services that help families live healthier, happier lives. She also serves as a Managing Executive Officer of Panasonic Holdings and as founder and CEO of Yohana. Before Panasonic, she was a co-founder and head of innovation at Google X, Google’s legendary moonshot lab, and went on to serve as Chief Technology Officer at Nest, Vice President at Google’s healthcare organization, a senior executive at Apple, VP of technology at Twitter, and CEO of the wearable health startup Quanttus.
Matsuoka’s path began in research. As an endowed professor at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Washington, she founded and directed the Neurobotics Laboratory and the Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering, pioneering work combining neuroscience and robotics to restore movement and sensation to the human body. That research earned her the MacArthur Fellowship and a Presidential Early Career Award. She holds a PhD and master’s from MIT and a bachelor’s from UC Berkeley, all in electrical engineering and computer science, and she founded the YokyWorks Foundation to help children with physical and learning challenges.
As a speaker, Yoky Matsuoka offers a uniquely credible perspective on artificial intelligence, robotics, human-centered design, and the future of well-being. She speaks on building technology that genuinely serves people, the responsible use of AI in everyday life, leadership across research and industry, and what it takes to turn breakthrough science into products the world actually uses. Audiences gain practical insight and inspiration from a leader who has helped invent the future at nearly every major technology company of her era.
Yoky Matsuoka has spent her career building technology around human needs rather than the other way around. She explores how AI can genuinely improve daily life, from health and wellness to the home, and what it takes to design intelligent products that are useful, trustworthy, and centered on the people who use them.
Few leaders have crossed from frontier research to consumer technology as successfully as Matsuoka. Drawing on her journey from neurobotics professor to executive at Google, Apple, and Panasonic, she shares how breakthrough science becomes products people love, and why bridging that gap is one of the most valuable skills in modern innovation.
As CEO of Panasonic Well, Matsuoka is building an AI-powered ecosystem to help families live healthier, happier lives. She examines the future of wellness technology, how AI can support caregiving and human connection, and how leaders can build tools that strengthen rather than fragment our lives.
Having led teams in academia, at moonshot labs, and inside global corporations, Matsuoka offers a distinctive view of innovation leadership. She reflects on building and motivating world-class teams, taking smart risks, and sustaining creativity and purpose across very different kinds of organizations.
