Steven Kotler is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, three-time Pulitzer Prize nominee, and one of the world’s foremost authorities on human performance. As the co-founder and Executive Director of the Flow Research Collective, he has spent more than three decades decoding the neuroscience behind peak performance — with particular focus on flow states, the optimal states of consciousness in which people perform at their absolute best. His research has reached practitioners in over 130 countries, with clients ranging from Meta, Audi, Accenture, and Bain Capital to the United States Air Force, Navy SEALs, professional athletes, and Fortune 500 CEOs.
His career began in the 1990s as a journalist embedded in the world of action sports, where watching athletes push past what seemed physiologically possible sparked a lifelong obsession: what happens in the brain and body when humans transcend normal limits? That question shaped seventeen ventures across performance neuroscience, media, and conservation, all anchored in a single mission — proving what becomes possible when human beings access flow.
Kotler is the author of fourteen books, eleven of which became bestsellers. His works have been translated into over sixty languages and featured in more than 110 publications, including academic journals such as Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews and Psychophysiology, as well as mainstream titles including The New York Times Magazine, Wired, TIME, the Wall Street Journal, and the Harvard Business Review. Among his most influential titles: The Art of Impossible, Stealing Fire, The Rise of Superman, Bold, Abundance, and The Future Is Faster Than You Think — co-authored with Peter Diamandis.
His work has earned the endorsement of some of the most recognized leaders of the modern era. Elon Musk called Abundance “essential reading.” Ray Kurzweil described The Rise of Superman as “game-changing.” President Bill Clinton once characterized Kotler’s work as “a visionary roadmap for change.” These are not marketing quotes — they reflect the degree to which Kotler has shaped the conversation on human potential at the highest levels of industry, government, and science.
As a peak performance speaker, Steven Kotler delivers talks that are as scientifically rigorous as they are immediately actionable. Audiences leave with a concrete understanding of the neurobiological triggers of flow, the specific conditions organizations can engineer to unlock peak performance, and the evidence-based practices that separate extraordinary achievement from merely good work. His sessions are particularly valued by leadership teams navigating change, innovation challenges, or the pressure to do more with less — because Kotler doesn’t just inspire, he hands audiences the science to back it up.
What separates good performance from extraordinary performance isn't talent — it's access to flow. In this signature keynote, Kotler breaks down the neurobiology of flow states, reveals the specific triggers organizations can engineer to induce them, and shares the evidence-based practices used by elite military units, professional athletes, and Fortune 500 teams to operate consistently at their best. Attendees leave with a practical, science-backed framework for elevating performance at the individual and organizational level.
Drawing from his book of the same name, Kotler maps the four-stage process underlying every impossible achievement — massive transformative purpose, hard goals, clear goals, and flow. This keynote is built for leaders and teams who are being asked to accomplish things that seem beyond their current capabilities, and it delivers a precise, actionable roadmap for getting there. By the end, what once looked impossible looks like a well-defined challenge.
Based on his groundbreaking research into altered states of consciousness and peak performance, Kotler (with co-author Jamie Wheal) explored how the world's highest performers have quietly developed techniques for accessing extraordinary states of mind. This keynote translates those insights for executive audiences — exploring how organizations can ethically and sustainably create conditions that unlock creativity, collaboration, and breakthrough thinking.
Co-developed with Peter Diamandis, this keynote explores how converging technologies — AI, robotics, biotechnology, networks, and sensors — are reshaping industries at a pace most organizations are not prepared for. Kotler draws on decades of research to show leaders how to read exponential curves, identify inflection points before competitors do, and build organizations that thrive in conditions of radical, accelerating change.
