Stephan Bugaj is the Senior Vice President of GenAI Content & Technology at JioStar Group, India’s largest media company, where he leads AI-powered content creation from strategy through production. With more than three decades at the frontier of storytelling and technology, including a twelve-year tenure at Pixar, he is one of the few executives in global entertainment who has shipped Oscar-winning films, Emmy-winning interactive experiences, and commercial generative AI productions.
AI speaker Stephan Bugaj is best known today for pioneering the convergence of generative AI, interactive storytelling, and premium entertainment. Before joining JioStar, he served as Chief Creative Officer at Genvid Entertainment, where he co-developed the Massively Interactive Live Event (MILE) format and won the 2024 Emmy Award for Outstanding Innovation in Emerging Media. His Genvid projects include “SILENT HILL: Ascension,” “DC Heroes United,” “Rival Peak” (with more than 10 million views), “The Seeker” (the first commercial GenAI film), and Genvid’s suite of AI filmmaking tools.
Earlier in his career, Bugaj held creative and creative-technology leadership roles at DJ2 Entertainment, where he worked on franchises including “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Sonic The Hedgehog,” at Hanson Robotics, where he directed the Cannes-premiering short films featuring Sophia the Android, and at Telltale Games. His twelve years at Pixar saw him contribute to Oscar-winning films including “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Wall-E,” and “Brave,” and serve as a screenwriter in development.
Beyond his production credits, Bugaj is a builder of the underlying technology that powers modern storytelling. He holds four patents in animation pipelines and workflows, and as a researcher at Bell Labs he co-authored the W3C Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language specification, a foundational standard for multimedia on the web. His current work at JioStar focuses on AI-native creative pipelines, interactive storytelling formats, and intelligent content frameworks serving a network that reaches more than 750 million viewers every week.
As a speaker, Stephan Bugaj brings audiences something almost no one else can: a hands-on, executive-level view of how generative AI, robotics, and interactive media are actually being used to make commercial entertainment at global scale. Senior audiences gain practical frameworks for AI-native creative pipelines, transmedia IP development, and innovation as a repeatable process, plus a clear-eyed look at where the human creator still wins and where AI is rewriting the rules.
Stephan led the creation of "The Seeker," the first commercial generative AI film, and built the AI tools used to produce it. He walks audiences through what GenAI filmmaking actually looks like in production today: the pipelines, the creative tradeoffs, the cost economics, and the strategic questions every studio, brand, and content company should be asking right now.
Innovation theater is everywhere. Real innovation is rare. Drawing on three decades shipping breakthrough work at Pixar, Telltale, Hanson Robotics, Genvid, and now JioStar, Bugaj shares the repeatable process behind turning emerging technology into commercial entertainment, useful for any leader trying to move from prototype to product in a fast-moving market.
Bugaj co-developed the Massively Interactive Live Event format and led "SILENT HILL: Ascension." An Emmy winner for innovation in emerging media, he shows how streaming, gaming, and live audience participation are converging into a new category of entertainment, what works, what fails, and what it means for media companies, brands, and creators competing for attention in the next decade.
At Hanson Robotics, Stephan directed the short films starring Sophia the Android that premiered at Cannes. He brings audiences a candid view of what it is actually like to direct a humanoid robot, what robotic performers mean for creative industries, brand experiences, and human-AI interaction, and where the line between digital character and physical android is heading.
From Tomb Raider to Sonic the Hedgehog to original AI-native IP, Bugaj has built franchises that travel across film, games, interactive media, and live formats. He offers a strategic playbook for executives and creators on how to design IP for transmedia from day one, when to adapt, when to reinvent, and how AI is changing the economics of franchise building.
