Speaker Moisés Naím is one of the world’s most influential interpreters of power, politics and global disorder. Drawing on a rare career that spans senior government service, global media leadership and decades of frontline analysis, Naím explains how power is really acquired, exercised and lost in the 21st century. His work helps leaders understand why democracies are under strain, why autocrats are adapting faster than institutions, and how globalisation, crime, technology and populism are reshaping governance in ways few anticipated.

Global affairs speaker Moisés Naím is a globally recognised political analyst, author and commentator specialising in international affairs, global power, governance and political economy. He is the author of several bestselling and widely translated books, including The End of Power, The Revenge of Power, Illicit and Rethink the World, works that have shaped how policymakers, executives and scholars understand power, democracy and global disruption.
Naím gained international prominence as Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Policy magazine from 1996 to 2010, where he led a successful relaunch that transformed the publication into a modern, award-winning authority on global politics and economics. During his tenure, Foreign Policy became one of the most influential forums for debate on international affairs.
His writing reaches a worldwide audience. Naím is the chief international columnist and Global Observer for El País and La Repubblica, and his columns are syndicated across Latin America. His work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek, Time, Newsweek, Le Monde, El Estadão and Berliner Zeitung. In 2011, he was awarded the Ortega y Gasset Prize, the most prestigious journalism award in the Spanish language.
In addition to his writing, keynote speaker Moisés Naím is the creator and host of Efecto Naím, a weekly television program launched in 2011 that explores unexpected global trends through interviews, data and visual storytelling, and is widely viewed across Latin America.
Beyond journalism, Naím has held senior roles in government and international institutions. In the early 1990s, he served as Venezuela’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Director of the Central Bank of Venezuela, and Executive Director at the World Bank. He was previously Professor of Business and Economics and Dean of IESA, Venezuela’s leading business school.
Naím is a Distinguished Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC, founder and Chairman of the Group of Fifty (G50), and a board member of several global companies. He holds MSc and PhD degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was named an Honorary Member of the Venezuelan Academy of Economic Sciences in 2020. He has been recognised repeatedly as one of the world’s leading global thinkers.
Based on his book The Revenge of Power, this keynote examines why power is once again concentrating in the hands of strongmen and authoritarian leaders. Naím explains how populism, polarisation and post-truth politics are being combined in new ways to undermine democratic life, and why power itself has not changed, but the methods used to gain and wield it have been transformed. A crucial talk on the future of freedom, democracy and political authority.
A deep exploration of how power has shifted from large, stable institutions to smaller, more agile actors. From boardrooms to battlefields, corporations to governments, Naím explains why power is easier to lose and harder to use, and how this reshapes leadership, strategy and governance across every sector.
A revealing analysis of the hidden world of illicit trade and organised crime. Naím shows how smugglers, traffickers and counterfeiters exploit globalisation to reshape economies, corrupt institutions and weaken states, and why traditional bureaucracies struggle to contain them. Essential insight into the dark side of global markets and security.
Drawing from his acclaimed columns, this keynote offers a tour of the unexpected trends and paradoxes shaping today’s world. Guided by the principles of surprise, connection and reversal, Naím challenges conventional wisdom and helps audiences see familiar global issues from entirely new angles.
An examination of why governments are increasingly failing to deliver security, prosperity and legitimacy. Naím explores how globalisation, media, identity politics and economic insecurity have weakened state capacity, and asks whether democratic governance can adapt to a world where power no longer respects borders.
Based on his work on economic reform and competition policy, this talk analyses the successes and failures of market reforms in Latin America. Naím examines deregulation, antitrust policy and institutional reform, drawing lessons for governments, investors and business leaders operating in emerging markets.
