    Hayley Barnard biography

Diversity and inclusion speaker Hayley Barnard is the CEO of MIX Diversity Developers, a consultancy that helps organizations become more innovative and profitable by building more diverse workforces and inclusive cultures. A commercially minded diversity strategist, she advises global brands on equity, diversity, and inclusion, and has delivered keynotes and leadership programs for more than 320 companies, including Mercedes-Benz, Capital One, Deloitte, HSBC, Vodafone, and Diageo.

Her client work spans boardrooms and entire workforces. For Deutsche Telekom, she designed an inclusive leadership program for the company’s top 600 leaders, and for BAE Systems she delivered a change program built around embracing difference and collaboration. She also founded MixLEARN, a digital learning platform that helps organizations scale inclusion training.

Barnard’s business career began early. At 23 she became General Manager of Sir Chay Blyth’s Challenge Business, the company behind the round-the-world yacht race, and she held her first board-level position by 26. She went on to co-found a communications and sponsorship business with adventurer Debra Searle, where she remains a director.

Inclusion Strategist, Trustee, and Endurance Athlete

Barnard serves as a Trustee of the Ufi VocTech Trust, a charity that uses technology to improve skills for work, and previously chaired the Impact and Engagement Committee of YHA. She holds a degree in Religious Studies, specializing in Islam, and completed postgraduate study in marketing. Her commitment to inclusion is also personal, shaped by close family members who are gay and by raising two children with disabilities.

She brings the same determination to physical challenges. She co-led the Women’s Arctic Challenge, an 11-day traverse of Baffin Island at temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius that included an education program for 150 schools. She has also swum the English Channel solo and completed the 20 Bridges swim around Manhattan.

As a speaker, Hayley Barnard makes the business case for diversity in clear, practical terms and shows leaders what inclusive leadership looks like day to day. Her sessions on unconscious bias, allyship, gender balance, and inclusive leadership combine research, real stories, and humor, so audiences engage rather than feel lectured. Leaders leave with small, specific changes they can make right away to build stronger, more collaborative teams.

    Hayley Barnard Speaking Topics

Inclusive leadership is a competitive advantage, not a side project. In this session for senior executives and people managers, Hayley Barnard shows how diverse, well-led teams drive innovation and better results, what inclusive leadership looks like in practice, and which barriers, such as unconscious bias, quietly hold teams back. Drawing on her work with Deutsche Telekom’s top 600 leaders and boards across Europe, she gives leaders a set of small, practical changes with a large impact and helps them take ownership of their organization’s inclusion strategy.

Everyone has unconscious biases, and the first step is understanding where they come from. In this lighthearted but substantive session, ideal for company-wide conferences, Barnard explains what implicit bias is, how it shows up in hiring, promotion, and everyday decisions, and what individuals and teams can do to reduce its impact. Audiences leave more self-aware, less defensive, and equipped with simple habits that make fairer decisions the norm.

Many people want to support colleagues from underrepresented groups but are not sure where to start. Barnard offers three concrete ways to be a stronger ally at work, explores how privilege can get in the way without anyone noticing, and shows how everyday actions add up to a more inclusive culture. The session is practical and judgment-free, helping people move from good intentions to visible support.

Using case studies and current research, Barnard highlights what works in building a strong pipeline of women into senior roles and why gender balance improves decision-making and performance. She covers recruitment, development, sponsorship, and culture, and can tailor the session for women’s networks or for all leaders responsible for talent. Organizations leave with proven practices to accelerate progress and keep the talent they have developed.
