CEO keynote speaker Genichi Tamatsuka is one of Japan’s most accomplished business leaders, an executive who has guided some of the country’s best-known consumer brands through growth and transformation. Since 2021 he has served as Representative Director, President, and CEO of Lotte Holdings, one of Japan’s leading confectionery and consumer goods groups, where he also serves as a director of LOTTE CO., LTD. and as director and acting owner of the professional baseball club Chiba Lotte Marines.
Tamatsuka began his career in 1985 at Asahi Glass (now AGC), which soon sent him to lead its Singapore office. In 1998 he joined Fast Retailing, the parent company of Uniqlo, working alongside founder Tadashi Yanai during the brand’s rapid expansion, and in 2002 he became President and COO. In 2005 he founded Revamp Corporation, an investment and turnaround firm that helped bring consumer brands such as Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to Japan. He then joined Lawson, one of Japan’s largest convenience store chains, overseeing its store and international operations before becoming Representative Director and President in 2014.
After Lawson, Tamatsuka served as President and CEO of Hearts United Group (now Digital Hearts Holdings) before taking the helm at Lotte Holdings. Beyond his executive roles, he chairs Japan Rugby League One, the country’s top professional rugby competition, and serves as an independent outside director of LY Corporation and an outside director of transcosmos. He has also served as vice chairman of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai). He holds MBAs from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and from Thunderbird School of Global Management.
As a speaker, Genichi Tamatsuka offers rare insight into how established companies reinvent themselves. Drawing on decades at the top of Japanese retail, consumer goods, and sport, he shares practical lessons on differentiating a business model, building brands across borders, and leading people through change. Executives leave with a clearer view of what it takes to keep a legacy company competitive and growing.
Tamatsuka has helped shape two of Japan’s most distinctive retail models, first at Fast Retailing during Uniqlo’s rapid expansion and later at Lawson, where he led the convenience store chain as president. He explains how leaders can identify what truly sets a business apart, redesign operations around it, and keep innovating as competitors catch up.
Established companies often carry strong brands and deep traditions alongside slow decision-making and resistance to change. Drawing on his leadership of Lotte Holdings, Tamatsuka shares how to modernize governance, sharpen strategy, and energize people while respecting what made the company successful.
From leading Asahi Glass in Singapore to bringing international brands to Japan through Revamp, Tamatsuka has worked on both sides of global expansion. He offers practical guidance on adapting brands to new markets, choosing partners, and building international operations that last.
As chairman of Japan Rugby League One and acting owner of the Chiba Lotte Marines, Tamatsuka is helping professionalize and grow Japanese sport. He shares how management discipline, fan experience, and community connection can turn sports organizations into thriving businesses.
