Speaker Mauricio Macri, former President of Argentina (2015–2019), built a unique career that combines politics, business, and sport. Before reaching the presidency, voters chose him twice as Mayor of Buenos Aires, he served as a National Congressman, and he led Boca Juniors Football Club through three successful terms as its president. TIME magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in both 2016 and 2018. Earlier, in 2005, he created the political movement that first carried him to City Hall and, a decade later, to the Casa Rosada, breaking 70 years of traditional bipartisanship in Argentina.
Once in office, speaker Mauricio Macri faced a country close to economic collapse. Even so, he pushed an agenda focused on strengthening democracy, defending the separation of powers, and promoting transparent government. Under his leadership, Argentina launched an unprecedented infrastructure and energy program: new highways, trains, airports and digital connectivity (4G and fiber optics) helped integrate the country, while a modernized energy matrix sought long-term sustainability. At the same time, he promoted Argentina’s reintegration into global markets and, in 2018, chaired the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, earning strong recognition from world leaders.
Internationally, Spain, France, Italy and Mexico honored him with their highest decorations. He belongs to the Club de Madrid and the Democratic Initiative of Spain and the Americas, where he continues to engage in the regional debate on democracy and development.
Today, Mauricio Macri works as a global conferencista and Executive President of the FIFA Foundation, aligning his passions for education, football and opportunities for young people. He has taught leadership at Florida International University, speaks at leading universities worldwide, and shares his ideas in his books Primer Tiempo and ¿Para qué?. A civil engineer, he studied advanced programs in economics, finance and management at Columbia University and Wharton.
