Robotics speaker Daniela Rus is one of the world’s foremost roboticists and the visionary director of MIT’s famed Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), the largest research lab at MIT, with more than a thousand researchers. A pioneer in robotics, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems, she has spent her career inventing the future of intelligent machines, and building a future in which robots and AI work alongside people rather than replace them.
Rus is the Andrew and Erna Viterbi Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT and the first woman to lead CSAIL. Her research spans self-reconfiguring and soft robots, swarms, autonomous vehicles, and the science of autonomy and machine intelligence, work that has produced everything from tiny ingestible robots that can perform tasks inside the body to machines that aid ocean conservation. A MacArthur “Genius” Fellow, she is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has advised the US government on science and technology.
Rus is the author of The Heart and the Chip: Our Bright Future with Robots and The Mind’s Mirror: Risk and Reward in the Age of AI, books that offer a clear-eyed yet optimistic vision of how intelligent machines can augment human abilities. Beyond the lab, she has co-founded companies including Liquid AI, translating frontier research into real-world technology. Through it all, her message is consistent: used wisely, robotics and AI can take on dangerous, dull, and difficult work, freeing people to be more creative, more productive, and more human.
As a speaker, Daniela Rus is authoritative, accessible, and refreshingly hopeful, cutting through both hype and fear to explain what robots and AI can really do, and what they can’t. She speaks on the future of robotics and AI, human-machine collaboration, the science of autonomous systems, and the ethical choices that will shape how these technologies serve society. Audiences leave with a clear, inspiring understanding of the intelligent machines already reshaping our world, from one of the people building them.
Drawing on her book of the same name, Daniela Rus delivers a clear-eyed, optimistic vision of a world increasingly shared with intelligent machines. She explains where robotics and AI really are today, where they are heading, and how, used wisely, they can take on the dangerous, dull, and difficult work that holds people back. Blending deep expertise with genuine hope, she reframes the way audiences think about robots: not as replacements for humans, but as tools that can help us all be more human.
Few people have a clearer view of where intelligent machines are going than the director of MIT’s CSAIL. In this keynote, Daniela Rus takes audiences to the frontier of robotics and artificial intelligence, from soft and self-reconfiguring robots to autonomous systems and the latest advances in machine learning, and explains what these breakthroughs mean for business, science, and society. An authoritative, fascinating tour of the technologies reshaping our world, from one of the scientists inventing them.
The most powerful future, Daniela Rus argues, is not humans versus machines but humans with machines. In this keynote she explores how robots and AI can augment human skills and judgment rather than replace them, in the workplace, in healthcare, in science, and beyond. She offers leaders a practical, grounded view of how to adopt these technologies in ways that raise human capability and create real value. An inspiring, balanced talk on designing a future where people and intelligent machines thrive together.
With extraordinary capability comes real responsibility. As both a leading builder of intelligent machines and a thoughtful voice on their ethics, Daniela Rus examines the moral and societal questions raised by robotics and AI: safety, trust, bias, accountability, and the choices that will determine whether these technologies benefit everyone. Honest and far-sighted, this keynote helps leaders and audiences think clearly about how to steer one of the most consequential technological revolutions in history.
