Resilience speaker Charlie Webster is an award-winning broadcaster and journalist, and one of the most compelling voices anywhere on trauma, mental health, and the human capacity to come back from the very edge. For years she was a trailblazer in front of the camera, covering the world’s biggest sporting events for networks including ITV, Sky, the BBC, and ESPN, and making history as the first woman to present a heavyweight world title fight. But it is the story of what she has overcome, and what she has done with it, that makes her truly unforgettable on stage.
In 2016, after cycling 3,000 miles from London to Rio for charity, Webster contracted malaria and several other diseases, fell into a coma, and came close to death before making a remarkable recovery. That experience, and her subsequent journey through post-traumatic stress disorder, transformed her into a powerful advocate for mental health. A survivor of abuse, she went on to conceive, produce, and present the acclaimed BBC documentary Nowhere to Run: Abused by our coach, which led to a change in UK law and international policy, and she has campaigned successfully to strengthen protections for victims.
Webster channels her hard-won understanding into helping others. Her TEDx talk on rethinking PTSD reframed the condition as a global public-health issue, and her book, Why It’s OK to Talk About Trauma, combines her lived experience with expert insight to help survivors understand and navigate their recovery. An ambassador for Women’s Aid, Malaria No More, and the NSPCC, and an adviser to the UK Ministry of Justice’s victims panel, she has taken her message to the United Nations, the US Senate, and the UK Parliament.
As a speaker, Charlie Webster is honest, warm, and profoundly moving, pairing the polish of a world-class broadcaster with the raw authenticity of someone who has lived what she speaks about. She addresses resilience and recovery, mental health and trauma in the workplace, overcoming adversity, and the courage it takes to speak up and create change. Delivered with humor as well as heart, her keynotes leave audiences not only deeply moved, but better equipped to support themselves and the people around them.
Drawing on her book and her own hard-won experience, Charlie Webster opens up an honest, humane conversation about trauma, what it is, how it shapes our minds, bodies, and behavior, and why talking about it matters. With warmth and even humor, she breaks the stigma around a subject that touches most people at some point in their lives, and gives audiences practical, expert-informed tools to understand and support recovery, in themselves and in others. A powerful, destigmatizing keynote for any organization serious about wellbeing.
In 2016, Charlie Webster went from completing an epic charity cycle to fighting for her life in a coma. In this extraordinary keynote, she shares how she rebuilt herself, physically, mentally, and emotionally, from the very edge, and what that journey taught her about resilience, hope, and the strength we don't know we have until we need it. Unflinchingly honest and ultimately uplifting, it leaves audiences inspired and equipped to face their own hardest moments.
Following her near-death experience, Charlie Webster navigated post-traumatic stress disorder, and turned that struggle into advocacy, including a widely viewed TEDx talk reframing PTSD as a public-health issue. In this keynote she brings expert insight and lived experience to one of the most important conversations of our time: how we understand, talk about, and support mental health at work and in society. Essential, timely, and delivered with genuine authority.
Charlie Webster didn't just survive, she used her voice to change the system. From producing a BBC documentary that helped change UK law to campaigning at the UN, the US Senate, and the UK Parliament, she has turned personal experience into real-world impact. In this galvanizing keynote she explores the courage it takes to speak up, challenge injustice, and drive change, and inspires audiences to use their own voices and platforms for good. A moving talk about advocacy, purpose, and impact.
