Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, UK Government Women in Tech Envoy and CEO of Stemettes.
Technology reflects the people in the room when its decisions get made, and Anne-Marie Imafidon has spent her career widening that room. She speaks on women in tech with the authority of someone who has run the experiment at scale: her social enterprise, Stemettes, has reached more than 70,000 young people across the UK, Ireland, and Europe.
She is one of the technology speakers available through Aurum Speakers Bureau. This profile follows her path from child prodigy to government envoy, the argument of her book, and the keynotes she brings to boards, HR leaders, and technical teams.
From child prodigy to Oxford master’s
Imafidon passed her A-level in computing at eleven, the youngest girl ever to do so, and by twenty she had earned a master’s in mathematics and computer science from the University of Oxford. That rare combination of technical brilliance and social purpose has made her a trusted adviser to boards, governments, and global companies.
Early in her career, she held roles at Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard, and Deutsche Bank.
Stemettes and a live evidence base
In 2013, Imafidon co-founded Stemettes, the award-winning social enterprise that supports young women and non-binary people into science, technology, engineering, and math. Under her leadership as CEO, it has reached more than 70,000 young people.
That reach gives her a live evidence base on what draws underrepresented groups into technical careers.
She was appointed MBE in 2017 for services to young women and STEM, was named the most influential woman in UK tech in 2020, and holds an honorary professorship at Glasgow Caledonian University alongside multiple honorary doctorates.

Shaping policy, education, and the future of tech
In 2025, Imafidon was appointed the UK Government’s Women in Tech Envoy, co-chairing the Women in Tech Taskforce with the Technology Secretary. In 2026, she became the Department for Education’s Life and Future Skills Enrichment Ambassador.
She is also Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University, has chaired the Institute for the Future of Work, served as President of the British Science Association, and is an Honorary Fellow of Keble College, Oxford.
A familiar face in the media, she served as arithmetician on Channel 4’s Countdown and hosts the Women Tech Charge podcast.
She’s In CTRL: the case for taking back tech

She’s In CTRL by Anne-Marie Imafidon (Transworld, 2022): a practical case for women to shape the technology they use every day.
Her book, She’s In CTRL: How Women Can Take Back Tech, was published in 2022. It argues that technology is part of everyday life, belongs to everyone, and can be changed.
According to the publisher, women make up roughly a quarter of the UK STEM workforce, which leaves big decisions about technology in the hands of a small group of mostly men.
The book blends Imafidon’s own experience with the stories of pioneers and offers examples, exercises, and practical guidance for getting started.
Caroline Criado Perez, author of Invisible Women, praised it as a practical and positive guide.
